Why stress makes you eat less

The overview:
Why stress makes you eat less
Regaining your appetite, meal prepping
The guilt around food
Understanding yourself and allowing yourself to heal
Food is very closely tied to our emotions. Not just in terms of nostalgia but also everyday stress or cravings.
Do you feel your appetite fluctuates with your mood? |

People who lose their appetite are so consumed by the source of their stress or anxiety that they can’t do anything else, including necessary tasks like eating.
Stress causes increased levels of cortisol, which in turn increases acid production in the stomach.
This process is meant to help the body quickly digest food in preparation for ‘fight-or-flight’. This process also, for the same reasons, decreases appetite.
The Appetite Returns
There is a deeper understanding to appetite and overcoming stress.
Catch a few extra insights here.
Someone who has been eating less as a response to a decrease in appetite may need to eat ‘mechanically’ in order for hunger cues to return.
Comfort Food
Eating food you have childhood or nostalgia attached to is good for your mind and body. You will remember why food makes you feel good making it easier to build a routine around it.

Another way to make a routine around eating is meal prepping. It improves the quality of your diet, makes you more mindful about your food and you can avoid stuffing junk in your system at the last minute.

Why do we think this way?
We believe suffering improves our character
You do not have to “earn” your meal, food is a necessity. We believe we deserve punishment
Food and sleep banks do not exist. An extra serving at lunch doesn’t mean a measly dinner. Every meal is important. We want to relieve guilt
Food is a celebration. Treats like dessert or a heavy festive meal shouldn’t be followed by crash diets or minimal eating.
Deep-rooted issues like this need more mental attention and healing.
