A study found that metabolic rate remains consistent from your 20s to 60s, and only after 60 does it start to decline – and even then, only by about 0.7% a year.

What this means is that weight gain isn’t necessarily due to a “slower metabolism” in your 40s or 50s, as we’ve often been led to believe. Rather, it's more about other factors like lifestyle changes, muscle loss, and less physical activity over time.
